Who will win the 20/21 NBA Championship? When the NBA decided to start back the 2019 regular season in the Orlando bubble, many thought this was an aggressive plan. An undeniable success, the NBA will now try to pull off another miracle, starting the 2020 regular season just 71 days after The Finals ended.
With Covid-19 running rampant among other sports leagues, it will be interesting to see how this effects the NBA. Before we see eventual outbreaks, I wanted to take a look at some contenders for the championship before the season officially kicked off.
We hope to bring you some good analysis into the 20/21 NBA season and hope to bring you a WINNER! That being said, let’s get started!
Los Angeles Lakers.

When we’re talking about contenders, it only makes sense to talk about the defending champs! Not only did the Lakers win the title last season, but they got better in the off season. Bringing in both Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell will upgrade the starting lineup, and bring in some scoring off the bench.
The best part for the Lakers this off-season was other contenders got worse. The Clippers, Rockets, and Nuggets all got worse while only Portland got better. If you’re the Lakers, you’re still not scared of Portland, no matter how many half court heaves Damian Lillard hits.
Schroder is the bigger get here, the Lakers had to find someone to replace Rajon Rondo and they honestly upgraded at the point guard position.
Harrell is a nice piece, but don’t expect his role to change that much going from one locker room in the Staples Center to the other. I’d expect Montrez to still come off the bench, and occasionally start when either LeBron or Anthony Davis need a night off. Let’s not forget, the Lakers and Heat will only have 71 days off between the Finals and the start of the new season.
It’s clear that the Lakers are in the driver’s seat in the West, if they can avoid Covid-19 and injuries, they will be in a great position to make it back to The Finals.
Los Angeles Clippers.

After a disappointing end to last season, the Clippers have had all off season to do some serious soul searching. Kawhi and Paul George didn’t come to L.A. to get bounced by Denver in the playoffs, it’s clear that it’s playoffs or bust for this group.
Outside of bringing in Serge Ibaka and Luke Kennard and losing Montrezl Harrell, this Clippers roster remains largely the same. Now continuity is important in the NBA, but to me this still isn’t enough if they want to beat the Lakers.
L.A. still has some nice pieces, Marcus Morris had a really nice run in the bubble for the Clippers and earned every cent of his new contract. Patrick Beverley is fine, I’m concerned about his durability over the course of a season, but he’s still a bulldog on defense.
If they don’t make any other moves, Kawhi and PG will have to go supernova in the playoffs. No more way off P, the Clippers will need capital P Playoff P. There was a rumor floating around in the off-season that Kawhi wasn’t pleased with having to handle the ball so much on offense. It doesn’t look like the Clippers did much to address that complaint.

Let’s move away from the L.A. area and head east to the other conference! Starting with Milwaukee and the two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks fell short last season, falling to the Heat in the second round of the playoffs.
It’s no secret the biggest elephant in the room is the looming decision for Giannis to sign his super max deal to remain in Milwaukee. That’s why the front office decided to go even more all in and bring in Jrue Holiday.
Holiday brings an additional scorer, and great perimeter defense to a team that already ranked among the best in the league. Milwaukee needed more star power for the playoffs, and Jrue will be a great second banana to Giannis.
The biggest question for Milwaukee is what else can they do to improve the roster throughout the year? They’ll scan the buyout market later in the year for vets, but other than that the Bucks don’t really have another avenue to get better. Losing out on Bogdan Bogdanovic really hurt for Milwaukee, his shooting would have greatly helped in the playoffs.
The Bucks are in a great position to make another deep run in the playoffs in the East, but they need better results if they want to keep the MVP in Milwaukee.

It seems odd to make the Nets a championship contender when their best player is coming off of a brutal Achilles injury. It says more about how weak the Eastern Conference is than the talent of the Nets, but if Kevin Durant can come back even remotely close to a hundred percent of what he once was, then Brooklyn is in a good spot.
No matter how you feel about Kyrie Irving the person, Kyrie Irving the basketball player is truly special. He’s made some of the most iconic and clutch shots during his time in the NBA, sure he’s a different dude personally, but the basketball player can be a fantastic Robin to Durant’s Batman.
Along with Durant and Irving, the Nets have Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, Joe Harris, and Spencer Dinwiddie. This team is deep, and they have enough pieces if they want to go make a run at a third star (is that James Harden and Bradley Beal’s music I hear??).
This team’s success will depend on the health of Kevin Durant. If he’s healthy, then the Nets should make a deep in the playoffs. If not, they still will make the playoffs, but it their season could end early.

Let’s end the list with going through the team that the Lakers beat in The Finals, the Miami Heat! The darlings of the bubble, Miami is in a great spot for the upcoming season. The Heat lost Jae Crowder in free agency, but brought in Avery Bradley and Moe Harkless.
But the key for Miami is the development of their young core. If Bam, Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson can continue their growth from last season, the Heat will be in a great spot.
With Jimmy Butler coming off a great season and Goran Dragic back in the fold, Miami’s veteran core will look to build off what they built in the bubble.
With the East being not as competitive this season, Miami should be a lock to make the playoffs and will look to make it back to The Finals.
