Our game this week see’s Jurgen Klopp’s high-flying Liverpool take on Brenden Roger’s wounded Leicester City. Liverpool is looking fit and raring to go, especially after bringing in £50 Million signing Luis Diaz. On the other hand, Leicester needs a reaction after this weekend’s embarrassing 4-1 FA Cup defeat to local rivals Nottingham Forest.
A huge positive for both teams going into this fixture will be the returning players from the African Cup of Nations. Liverpool will welcome back the likes of Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Naby Keita. Whereas Leicester will be pleased to see Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Daniel Amartey, and Nampalys Mendy all return. Despite their returns, there will still be a cloud hanging over these players’ fitness, especially for Salah, Mane, and Mendy, as all three of them featured in the final last Sunday.
After a convincing 3-1 win in the FA Cup against Cardiff on the weekend, Liverpool goes into the next game looking to continue their momentum. Despite a slow start in the first half, goals from the likes of Diogo Jota and the returning Harvey Elliot saw the reds ease past Championship strugglers Cardiff. Klopp’s men look stronger than ever, with the re-emergence of young star Harvey Elliot making his way back from a long-term injury as well as Spanish international Thiago returning. The biggest surprise going into this game is the new addition to the squad, Colombian winger Luis Diaz. The 25-year-old has made his way to Merseyside after impressing with 14 goals in 18 matches for the Portuguese giant Porto. This will help bolster their squad and add plenty of firepower upfront.
Leicester has been a mixed bag this season. They sit middle of the pack in the Premier League, 10th. The last four fixtures sum up their form this season. The highs have been thrilling with an excellent 1-0 win over Liverpool in late December as well as a 4-1 demolition of Watford in the FA Cup. However, the lows have been brutal after conceding two goals in the space of 80 seconds against Tottenham to lose 3-2, a dismal 1-1 draw against Brighton at home as well as being thrown out the FA Cup by local rivals Nottingham Forest. This was an embarrassing display that resulted in a 4-1 defeat.
A win against Liverpool isn’t out of the question. After all, they did manage to beat them earlier in the season. But this is different. This is Anfield. Brendan Rogers has never won at Anfield as an opposing manager and with Leicester going into this match conceding at least three goals in each of their last four away games in all competitions. This isn’t a record you’d want when you’re travelling to Merseyside. This could get ugly.

For now, here are our predictions:
Match Result – Liverpool To Win
Right, now we’ve got the statistics out of the way, let’s talk about the result.
Despite the smash and grab win at the King Power Stadium earlier in the season, I’m going for a Liverpool win. My explanation is simple, really. Liverpool looks strong, and Leicester seems weak. The reds have plenty of firepower, with the likes of Jota, Diaz, Salah, and Roberto Firmino all available for selection. Trying to stop Liverpool from scoring this time around will be a monumental task. A task Leicester doesn’t look equipped for.
Over 2.5 Total Goals / Jota To Have 2 Shots On Target
Anfield under the lights looks like an excellent setting for some goals, especially as I mentioned earlier, Leicester’s weaknesses of conceding goals away from home. Let’s not forget the last meeting at Anfield in the cup. Liverpool and Leicester went toe to toe and scored three goals each, only to be settled by penalties later on. I believe goals are a sure thing and the man to deliver is Portuguese striker Diogo Jota.
The 25-year-old has had some big boots to fill after teammates Salah and Mane left for AFCON, Jota didn’t disappoint. He has averaged 1.22 shots on target a game, currently sits on 15 goals this season in all competitions, and has also picked up three goals in his last three games. With top scorer Mohammed Salah being a doubt for this game, he’s definitely someone you should keep your eye on.
