Cheltenham Picks – Tuesday 16th March 2021.
Race 1. 1.20 Cheltenham: 2m½f (2m87y) (Old) Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (4yo+)
Tip: No.7 Metier – Useful on Flat in Ireland and has made a highly-promising start over hurdles, posting a smart effort when making it 3-3 with 12-length defeat of Shakem Up’arry in Grade 1 Tolworth.
Race 2. 1.55 Cheltenham: 2m (1m7f199y) (Old) Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (5yo+)
Tip: No.1 Allmankind – One of the best juvenile hurdlers around last season and this front runner has quickly made into an even better chaser, winning Henry VIII at Sandown and Kingmaker at Warwick on last 2 starts.
Race 3. 14.30 Cheltenham: 3m1f (Old) Ultima Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (5yo+)
Tip: Admiral’s Secret 16/1 E/W – Has his quirks but ended last season winning at Leicester and Wincanton and carried on where he left off when successful at Ludlow on return. Good third at Warwick since and worth a try at this trip.
Race 4. 15.05 Cheltenham: 2m½f (2m87y) (Old) Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy (Grade 1) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (4yo+)
Tip: Honeysuckle 11/8 (NAP) – Produced an outstanding performance when beating Benie des Dieux at 2020 Festival and in even better form when easily making it a perfect 10-10 over hurdles in Irish Champion latest. Leading claims.
Race 5. 15.40 Cheltenham: 2m4f (2m3f200y) (Old) Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle (Registered As The David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle) (Grade 1) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (4yo+)
Tip: Roksana 3/1 – Fortunate winner of this in 2019 and fourth last year. Better than ever around 3m this winter, winning pair of Grade 2s, and a danger to Concertista if she can reproduce that level back over shorter.
Race 6. 16.15 Cheltenham: 2m½f (2m87y) (Old) Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (Registered As The Fred Winter) (Grade 3) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (4yo)
Tip: Homme Public 12/1 E/W– Edged out by Houx Gris on final outing in France and has made a promising start in Britain, second to Tinnahalla at Catterick before readily going one better at Market Rasen. Needs considering.
Race 7. 16:40 Cheltenham: 3m6f (3m5f201y) (Old) Sam Vestey National Hunt Challenge Cup Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (GBB Race) (Class 1)(5yo+)
Tip: Next Destination 5/2 (NB) – Grade 1 staying-hurdle winner for Willie Mullins in 2017/18 who has impressed with Grade 2 chase successes at Newbury and Warwick for current yard. Good jumper. More to offer at this trip. Big player.
